Ingredients

1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Zest of 1 lemon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

¼ cup toasted slivered almonds (optional)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Green Beans:

    - Rinse the green beans under cold water and trim the ends. Set them aside.

      Blanch the Beans:

        - Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and blanch them for about 2-3 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender.

          - Immediately transfer the beans to an ice water bath to stop the cooking process. After they've cooled, drain and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.

            Sauté Aromatics:

              - In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat.

                - Once the butter is melted, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.

                  Cook the Green Beans:

                    - Add the blanched green beans to the skillet and toss to coat them in the garlic butter mixture.

                      - Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beans are crisp-tender and have absorbed the flavors.

                        Season:

                          - Drizzle the soy sauce over the green beans and toss well.

                            - Season with salt, pepper, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Continue to sauté for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

                              Serve:

                                - If desired, sprinkle the toasted slivered almonds over the top for added crunch.

                                  - Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

                                    Enjoy:

                                      - Serve warm as a side dish to your favorite protein or as a part of a hearty vegetarian meal!
